Hi, I too had a similar problem with my IBM laptop T30. After a lot of struggle,I solved this as follows.The problem is mainly due to your RAM,which I feel is 128 or 256. With all modern programs,you need to have atleast 512 mb. Now the solution
start msconfig from “run ” command. Go to services menu and select hide all microsoft services.It will show all Non microsoft services.Then ‘disble” all these. Then reboot.Your system should boot faster.
The problem you are facing is due to some faulty progrm which you recently loaded.if you restore your system to the previous known good setup,then this menace should stop.

you should get a gig of ram it cost about 100 bucks a best buy, you could also get 512 megs of ram and it should run a little faster
